Description: When you hear “trafficking,” you don’t picture a white shirt and tie. In Utah, it’s often disguised as “service,” “family business,” or “obedience.” We’re diving into the personal story behind “The Mistletoe Season” to expose how forced child labor is a feature, not a bug, in some of Utah’s most powerful groups.

Today we’re joined by Stephanie, and she’s here to share a story that goes to the very heart of what we talk about on this channel.
When we talk about trafficking, she’s lived the kind that smiles in sacrament meeting.
Born into the LDS faith, Stephanie’s childhood was one of constant upheaval, moving 35 times by age 15. At 11, she was pulled from public school, supposedly to be homeschooled, but in reality, to work full-time.
This wasn’t just ‘hard work’—it was forced labor, from selling mistletoe door-to-door in the cold until 11 at night, to tarring roofs at 12 years old to pay rent… to a landlord who was in the stake presidency.
Her story is a direct line into how doctrines of ‘work’ and ‘obedience’ can be twisted into tools of coercion and abuse. She’s here to talk about ‘The Mistletoe Season’ and the system that allowed it to happen. Everyone, let’s give a warm welcome to Stephanie.
