Description: Friends, family, and members of the public,
Tomorrow, the first pitch will be thrown in the state of Arizona as opening statements commence in the case against Lori Vallow Daybell. This day marks a significant milestone in my journey to hold her accountable for the devastating ambush and murder of my beloved uncle, Charles Vallow.
On July 11, 2019, Charles stepped up to the plate, expecting to be at the rental house he so generously provided for Lori – a home intended to foster stability for his children, JJ Vallow and Tylee Ryan, young lives tragically cut short by Lori’s heinous actions, for which she has already been convicted.
But instead of a routine visit, my uncle was blindsided, ambushed at home plate by Lori’s own brother. This was no accidental hit-by-pitch; this was a calculated fastball aimed directly at taking him out of the game of life.
And let us not forget Tammy Daybell, another innocent life stolen, the wife of Lori’s current husband, Chad Daybell, the doomsday fanatic now sitting on death row in Idaho for his role in these very same murders. While Chad’s stench lingers over this entire ordeal, and while he should also face scrutiny for any involvement in my uncle’s death, my focus today, and tomorrow, remains squarely on Lori Vallow Daybell. He’s not even worth a bench-clearing brawl’s attention right now.
My uncle Charles was a true team player, a kind, humble, and caring man who loved his wife, cherished their blended family, bled silver and blue for his Dallas Cowboys, and found joy in the crack of the bat and the slide into home. He often spoke of life in terms of baseball, and today, as we step into this courtroom, we carry his spirit with us.
Tomorrow, the prosecution will step up to the mound, ready to throw strike one in laying out the evidence of Lori Vallow Daybell’s guilt in my uncle’s death. We have been in the on-deck circle for far too long, waiting for our chance to see justice served.
We believe that the evidence will be irrefutable, each witness a solid hit, each piece of testimony another runner advancing. And in the end, we are confident that the truth will cross the plate, delivering a grand slam for justice. Lori Vallow Daybell will be found guilty.
