I don’t like to talk about this kind of stuff BUT that’s not to say it doesn’t need to be talked about. It does! If we don’t talk about it then we are not doing the victims any sort of justice. Do not be afraid of those who worship the Orishas, or those who pray to Thor, or indeed those who might hug the stones at Stonehenge. They are as devout as those who call Jesus their saviour, or who would love to visit the Vatican. The ones to fear are those who have a desire to lead these folk, to have power over them in some way. The ones who seek to control their very thoughts through "mystic writings" and "hidden knowledge" that they alone allege to possess. The ones who prey on people's weaknesses.
The Wiccan performing a spell for protection or the Mormon praying for a friend's health didn't cause the Daybells et al to do what they did – the hierarchical power structure did that – the will to be at the top, or close to it, drove them to do what they did. It would be nice to see the whole seething mess that they were a part of crumble and die, but human nature being what it is, other Daybells will spring up in the future, other lives will be ruined, and the cycle will continue. All we can do is be on guard, spot the red flags, and call them out on their BS.
